About Our Founders
In 2009 Charisse Vasquez and Michael Flood started their professional relationship as traveling contract therapists at Napa State Hospital. Here they developed a team of therapists to create and implement policies and procedures, communication and documentation systems. They then used their skills to manage and lead therapy departments in various settings.
They joined co-founder Avigdor Goldman. Often co-treating, they realized that they shared the same values: working autonomously, transparency, thoroughness, patients’ independence, and supporting the community in which they lived. Loraine Tolentino joined the group in 2012. With passions for providing therapy and armed with thoughts to make a change in Healthcare, Essential Healthcare Staffing emerged!
Meet the Founders
Cofounder and Speech Language Pathologist
Michael Flood often says, “I was blessed. Speech Language Pathology found me.” As a full-time student athlete, playing football (2004 Division II National Champion), he earned his Bachelors and Masters degrees in Communication Disorders from Valdosta State University. From the beginning he realized that his goal was to be a medical Speech Language Pathologist and own a business. When Michael is not in the office, he can be found providing treatments for his favorite components of Speech Language Pathology: dysphagia, motor speech disorders, and voice. He has managed and practiced in multiple settings, but has found the home-health setting to be most rewarding. As a strong believer in physical and mental fitness he enjoys spending time outdoors, exercising, creating music, and traveling anywhere he can. Above all, the most valuable time spent is with his family and friends.
Cofounder and Occupational Therapist
Avigdor Goldman was teaching children with autism for Oakland Unified School District when he began working with the occupational therapist. He realized that an occupational therapist had the greatest impact on children’s profound behaviors, and he decided to become an occupational therapist. He began taking courses at night while working full time. After completing his Master’s degree, he worked in many settings, from a brain-injury facility, SNF, acute hospital, mental health, and most recently in patients’ homes. His wife is a home-health physical therapist and they work hard balancing between treating patients, writing reports, and their two rambunctious daughters. Avi is a strong proponent of providing home-health services as an occupational therapist, “Occupational Therapists belong in the home health setting; there is nothing more functional than helping people achieve their independence where it is most meaningful.”
Cofounder and Physical Therapist
Since childhood, Charisse Vasquez has traveled in pursuit of better opportunity. Inspired by the tenacity of her mother, Charisse chose Physical Therapy as a career in the hopes of working in the United States. Charisse graduated from Davao Doctors College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy. She began work as a physical therapist aide while studying for the physical therapist licensure exam and became a fully licensed physical therapist. Several months later, a travel work opportunity was presented to her. Currently, Charisse is providing services in the home health setting within the San Francisco Bay area.
Cofounder and Registered Nurse
Lorraine Tolentino obtained her Bachelors degree in nursing of Angeles University Foundation in 2008. Lorraine is currently providing care and services in patients’ homes. As a home health nurse, Lorraine creates relationships not only with the patient but with the family and caregivers. According to Loraine, the most rewarding part of being a home health nurse is “When patients and family appreciate how a nurse can change the way they look at their health, and apply these teachings to their day to day.” On her days off Lorraine loves photography, travel, and spending time with loved ones.
